General Position Description

The teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain prompt hours: notify the director and school in the event of illness.

  2. Maintain a neat and clean appearance.

  3. Work with all other staff members in a cooperative manner.

  4. Attend staff meetings, report problems of child or room management to the director promptly. If two people are in a classroom or on the playground together, then they are equally responsible for the children.

  5. Attend in-service training whenever possible; keep up to date on developments in the field of early childhood education.

  6. Provide information to parents regarding their children, as well as general child development information. Communicate with parents through the Procare app regarding diapering, meals, answering parent questions, etc. Diapers are changed every 2 hours and as needed. Student names on water cups should always be legible.

  7. Ensure all center policies of Northwest Georgia Christian Academy and stage regulations are met.

  8. Keep a list of your student names in your pocket and give it to the break person or closing person.

  9. Provide planning and execution of developmentally appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the fields of care, music, literature, science, and mathematics. Teach Bible stories and sing songs every day. Curriculum: 1-3 yr. KidSparkz, PK Abeka; Bible-21st Century Christian (Lesson plans 1 week in advance and keep daily attendance).

  10. Plan and supervise age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and promote a healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. Treat children with respect and dignity. Treat children with reassuring tones, not harsh, bitter tones. 

  11. Ensure a healthy classroom environment-including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards, as well as the safety and security of children. Provide and maintain a neat, organized classroom; set up the physical environment to meet the changing needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers; take responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.

  12. Sit with children at all meals and assist in the development of good nutrition habits. 

  13. Review the allergy list to ensure the safety of children with allergies.

  14. Maintain accurate records and progress of each child's growth and development; prepare progress reports on each child a minimum of 2 times per year (fall, spring) and discuss reports with the director and the child's parent or guardian.

  15. Work with parents whenever possible to promote understanding of growth and development whenever possible.

  16. Never leave children unattended. 

  17. Be self-motivated and have a positive attitude.

Additional Knowledge

  1. A strong understanding of infant/preschooler growth and development.​

  2. High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.

  3. Ability to apply this understanding to appropriate activities for age group assignment.

  4. Ability to instruct other adults, especially by good role modeling in interactions with children.

  5. Ability to work with children warmly, calmly, and in an unhurried way.

  6. Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children.

  7. Ability to oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time.

  8. Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment.

  9. General knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid.

  10. Special ability to maintain positive relationships with children, coworkers, and parents.

Physical Requirements

  1. Good general health. Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to move quickly, kneel, bend, squat, get up and down from the floor quickly, or crawl.

  2. A specific vision ability will be required, including the ability to see up close and to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision, and have depth perception.

Experience and Education

  • TCC, CDA, or an associate's degree in early childhood education or related field of study is preferred​

  • Appropriate child development courses to meet state requirements

  • Prior experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers is preffered

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal Records check clearance

  • Certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid
